The history of our great company goes back to 1935, when G.W. and J.R. Young applied for a California transportation license to haul for hire. J.R. was 19 years old at the time and purchased a small trucking company named Commercial Transfer which specialized in transportation of agricultural commodities. J.R. changed the name to Young’s Commercial Transfer and operated out of Lindsay until 1945 when he moved the business to Porterville, the town we still call home today. Our roots are in hauling oranges, but throughout the years we have expanded our commodities and locations, all while maintaining the down-to-earth attitude of a fourth generation family business.
Today Young’s transports tomatoes, citrus fruit, potatoes, carrots, and a variety of other crops throughout California’s Central Valley. We’re still family owned and operated, and we employ a loyal group of office staff, mechanics, and seasonal and year-round drivers who uphold our dedication to customers and community.
Young’s has become the largest for-hire hauler of tomatoes in the United States, transporting around 2 million tons of tomatoes from fields to processing plants between July and October.
In addition to being the top produce hauler in California, we’re proud to be a top-choice employer for the dynamic trucking industry. Our drivers are the most visible members of our team, and they do a great job of representing the values for which we stand.
